Capacity Building for Small Coops in Mindanao
ACDI MPC hosted a training for small cooperatives in the CARAGA Region held from November 12 to 13, 2015 at RSY Bethlehem Hall in Surigao City. The two-day seminar, dubbed as “Innovative Cooperative Management and Governance,” was conducted in partnership with the Philippine Federation Credit Cooperative (PFCCO) and CLIMBS Life and General Insurance Cooperative. Dr. Edgardo D. Apoya, accredited Development Education Learning Facilitator of the Association of Asian Confederation of Credit Unions, served as the training specialist throughout the program.
Forty-six attendees from 21 cooperatives in the region participated in the training program. Among the participants are members of the Agusan National High School Multipurpose Cooperative (ANHS MPC), who were inspired by the success story of ACDI MPC and the social responsibilities the latter embraced for the development of younger and smaller cooperatives. ANHS MPC together with the other participating cooperatives were very thankful to ACDI MPC for sponsoring the training, which greatly helped in broadening their knowledge and perspectives on how leaders and members must run their cooperatives.
ACDI MPC believes that the development of the Cooperative Movement in the country rests on building competencies and capacity of smaller cooperatives through trainings and technical assistance to strengthen their operations and develop their business enterprise. That is why, one of the Cooperative’s advocacies is to capacitate small and budding cooperatives to be sustainable in the long-run. As ACDI MPC’s Chairperson Gilbert S Llanto said in his inspirational message, “Cooperatives must be united so that we can do our primary goal which is to provide.”
