ACDI MPC Holds Second Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue Training
ACDI MPC broadens its advocacies for disaster preparedness with the conduct of the second Collapsed Search and Rescue (CSSR) Training at the heart of Taguig City, Metro Manila. The training jumps off from the successful conduct of the first CSSR Training held at Brgy. Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu from August 6 to 14 last year.
For this year’s CSSR Training, an opening ceremony was held on February 8, 2016 at the ACDI Lot, Balao St., AFPOVAI Phase 1, Western Bicutan, Taguig City, and will run until February 15, 2016. The eight-day training involves thirty-six participants from ACDI MPC, Koop King Multi-purpose Cooperative, Taguig City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, and the Philippine Air Force’s 505th Search and Rescue Group (SRG) and Air Reserve Command. It was organized by the Cooperative in partnership with the Cebu-based Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) and 505th SRG. Joining the roster of instructors are three personnel from 505th SRG who were all graduates of the first CSSR Training.
CSSR Training is vital for local agencies situated in areas that have the potential for large-scale disaster such as Metro Manila which sits above an active fault line and is occasionally battered by typhoons and flooding. The training was designed to train local responders on the techniques and methods necessary in staging search and rescue (SAR) operations for collapsed structures in urban or city setting. Unlike the other SAR operations such as Water Search and Rescue, which ACDI MPC also trains local government units with, CSSR requires more sophisticated approaches and equipage.
