Financial Literacy Seminar

ACDI MPC is steadfast in its commitment to help transform budding cooperatives into sustainable and successful organizations in the future. As a ‘Big Brother’ in the Coop sector, ACDI MPC has been hosting a number of training programs aimed at capacitating smaller cooperatives with the right set of technical know-how and best practices to strengthen their operations.

One of the latest training programs hosted by ACDI MPC is the two-day training held in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur from May 27 to 28, 2016. The seminar focused on the central theme, “The Importance of Financial Literacy in Personal Life Situation and Success in Coop Business Management.” It was a partnership of ACDI MPC with the Philippine Federation of Credit Cooperatives and CLIMBS Life and General Insurance Cooperative.

In attendance were 160 participants from 60 cooperatives across the CARAGA Region, who were composed of incumbent members of the Board of Directors, committee members for Audit, Election and Ethics, and managers. Dr. Edgardo Apoya, CLIMBS Regional Marketing Manager, served as the speaker of the training. Participants were apprised on various topics that include: capital formation/utilization; business administration; basic skills in reading financial statements; interpretation of data used in the accounting system for cooperatives; strategic planning; and, financial projection.

In his opening remarks, ACDI MPC Chairperson MGEN GILBERT S LLANTO AFP (Ret) expressed his optimism in the great role of training programs (such as the above) in growing small cooperatives and bringing in inclusive growth to their members. He also conveyed the commitment of ACDI MPC in pushing the cooperative sector’s growth agenda under the Convergence Framework by building more partnerships and linkages with more cooperatives across various business lines.
