ACDI MPC officers and staff rolled up their sleeves and dug through the trash in Manila Bay for the 103rd Celebration of National Cooperative Day on October 20, 2018.

Over 3,000 cooperative member-volunteers from 174 cooperatives in National Capital Region and representatives of government agencies gathered the trash that built up on the seaside along Baywalk in Manila starting 6 a.m.

This is line with the National Cooperative Month’s Celebration bannering this year’s theme “Cooperatives: Partners for Building Resilient and Empowered Communities Towards a Better and Stronger Philippines”.

The National Cooperative Day was also celebrated in other parts of the country and seeks to celebrate the day of cooperative movement and showcase the cooperative members strength.

Laboratory Cooperative of ACDI MPC also joined in the activity as the Cooperative aims to reinforce the millennial generation, the most powerful force of the coop movement in the future.

The coastal cleanup was organized by Cooperative Development Authority - Manila Extension Office (CDA-MEO) and Cooperative Union of Taguig and Pateros (COUNTPA), and in coordination with environmental adovacy group Manila Bay Sunset Partnership Program Inc.

Atty Frederick Robles, Acting Regional Director of CDA Manila Extension Office said that the event was a success because of the huge turnout of cooperative individual member-volunteers.

Aside from showcasing the number of cooperative members, this also leaves the cooperatives the challenge to be an instrument for social consciousness formation as it fronts itself as an active agent of nation building.
